The Lake Lure Fire Department provides fire, rescue, advanced emergency medical and emergency management services for the citizens of the Town of Lake Lure.  In addition, the town contracts with three volunteer fire departments.  These three volunteer departments are necessary to meet the maximum coverage requirements set forth by the Insurance Services Office (ISO) which states a homeowner can only receive credit for fire protection if they are located within 5 road miles of a fire station. The Town of Lake Lure is currently has an ISO Class 4 rating.

There are areas inside the town that are nearly 9 miles from the Lake Lure Fire Station.  The three contracted departments include Bills Creek, Chimney Rock and Fairfield Mountains Fire Departments.  Each one one of the stations has a designated response area inside the town and respond along with Lake Lure Fire Department.

When there is a structure fire, all four fire departments respond.  Because of this close working relationship we train together almost weekly in an effort to insure that we operate well together in an emergency.

The Lake Lure Fire boat:

The Lake Lure Fire boat provides a critical water supply to land-based fire apparatus for fires located near the lake.  It is also capable of pumping water directly on the fire if it is near the shore.  We have extinguished several brush fires near the lake with the fire boat.  This valuable piece of equipment also serves as a rescue and dive boat, as needed.
