Lake Lure Fire Service at a Glance:

  • Organized as a Municipal Fire Department in 2008
  • The Town hired 24 hour personnel at the request of the existing volunteer departments
  • One firefighter on duty, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Two chief officers, one of whom is on duty or on call at all times
  • Lake Lure Fire Department has 23 Volunteer Firefighters

The Lake Lure Fire Department provides fire, rescue, emergency medical and emergency management services to the citizens of the Town of Lake Lure.  In addition, the town contracts with three volunteer fire departments.  These three volunteer departments are necessary to meet the maximum coverage requirements set forth by the Insurance Services Office (ISO) which states a homeowner can only receive credit for fire protection if they are located within 5 road miles of a fire station.

There are areas inside the town that are nearly 9 miles from the Lake Lure Fire Station.  The three contracted departments include Bills Creek, Chimney Rock and Fairfield Mountains Fire Departments.  Each one one of the stations has a designated response area inside the town and respond along with Lake Lure Fire Department.

When there is a structure fire, all four fire departments respond.  Because of this close working relationship we train together almost weekly in an effort to insure that we operate well together in an emergency.

The Lake Lure Fire boat:

The Lake Lure Fire boat provides a critical water supply to land-based fire apparatus for fires located near the lake.  It is also capable of pumping water directly on the fire if it is near the shore.  We have extinguished several brush fires near the lake with the fire boat.  This valuable piece of equipment also serves as a rescue and dive boat, as needed.
