Evacuation Lifted for Boys Camp Road Neighborhoods

Nov. 15, 2016 - The Town of Lake Lure, in coordination with the North Carolina Forest Service and local fire and emergency personnel is lifting the evacuation on Boys Camp Road today at noon.

Residents with homes accessible from Boys Camp Road can re-enter.  However, US 74A/US 64/NC 9 remains closed from near Lake Lure Town Hall through Chimney Rock Village to Bat Cave.

Traffic traveling via US 64 West, take NC 9 South to NC 108 West to US 74 West to I-26 West to US 64 East.
For traffic traveling via US 64 East, use US 64 West to I-26 South to US 74 East to NC 108 North to NC 9 North to US 64.   For further directions and road closures, visit the NCDOT Travel Information Website.

Those wishing to re-enter those neighborhoods will need to show proof of residence at a law enforcement checkpoint located at the checkpoint on Hwy 74 near the Lake Lure Inn and the public beach.

Residents will be asked for identification and then be given a special blue pass by a law enforcement officer to be used specifically for re-entry to Boys Camp Road.

Given the high number of emergency vehicles in the Lake Lure-Chimney Rock Village area, particularly during shift changes in the mornings and evenings, travelers are asked pay close attention in these areas and to minimize your travel as much as possible.

  • No access will be allowed into Chimney Rock Village until further notice.
  • When re-entering your homes, take these following precautions:
  •  Check for damages due to fire suppression actions
  • Report any fire suppression equipment remaining on the property so it may be retrieved
  • Due to power outages, check refrigerated and frozen foods for spoilage
  • Report lost pets to Animal Control

Questions on this re-entry should be directed to the Party Rock Lake Fire Information Center at 828-513-2500 or 336-455-9641; or by email at partyrockfireinfo@gmail.com.
