Nov. 8, 6 pm. Update on Forest Fire at Party Rock

Local fire crews are continuing to do all they can to protect homes in the impacted areas of Rumbling Bald Resort where a 300+ acre forest fire continues to burn on Rumbling Bald Mountain. The fire broke out Saturday, Nov. 5th in an area known as Party Rock.

Thus far, door-to-door evacuation efforts have been carried out in limited areas of Rumbling Bald Resort.

Those residents who may not have been home during the evacuation, but who did receive an evacuation notice, should call the resort for temporary housing. That number is 828.694.3046.

Local crews, along with volunteers, have taken steps to protect homes by removing leaves, limbs, and any other combustibles from around the homes.

This evening, approximately twenty engine companies from Rutherford, Polk, Henderson and McDowell counties will begin structure protection of the homes in the evacuation area.

These crews will begin additional back burns tonight.  Additional fire lines and breaks have been created.

Air drops of fire retardant will continue this evening in an effort to stop the fire from moving any further toward Rumbling Bald Resort. The Forest Service is also working with local water systems in to ensure that ample water supplies are available to firefighters.
