Northern Parkland (Tentative name)

The Town of Lake Lure has recently acquired 200 acres of rugged and pristine mountain land near Weedpatch Mountain at the northern end of town. Plans are to develop the land into another park featuring rugged hiking, bouldering and challenging mountain biking. The still undeveloped land borders the northern limits of Rumbling Bald Resort. This yet unnamed park will have a graveled trailhead located on Buffalo Creek Road, with a bridge over adjacent Buffalo Creek for trail access. Buffalo Creek is a large tumbling mountain stream traversing the eastern portion of the land. Near the bottomland of the stream, plans include easy loop trails, picnic areas and restroom facilities. More challenging looped and through trails will be built in the rugged hinterland and will feature long-range vistas, bouldering and, for the more adventuresome, climbing on rock cliffs. In an effort to provide multi-day hiking opportunities, a portion of the planned 25-mile plus Lake Lure Summits Trail connecting the heights around Lake Lure will be constructed through the Northern Parkland.

With the planned expansion of Chimney Rock State Park to include the remainder of Weed Patch Mountain, the Town of Lake Lure will develop a partnership with the State Park to develop trails for hiking and mountain biking, with the Northern Parkland providing access to the northern portions of Chimney Rock State Park.
