The Town of Lake Lure provides weekly curbside sanitation service to town residents in order to maintain our natural beauty and environment. The town contracts with Wade Nelon for garbage pickup. Garbage pickup is scheduled for Monday mornings. Garbage should be place in leak-proof containers that have tight fitting lids with a maximum limit of three containers (32 gallons each) per resident. The residents provide their own containers. Containers should be accessible at each house to servicemen without opening doors or gates by 7:00 AM on scheduled pickup day. Garbage includes household waste only, not recyclables or curbside items.

In addition, the Town of Lake Lure provides a pickup of hard trash, such as old household furnishings, bagged leaves, except building materials, on the last Friday of each month. Call our customer service department at 828-625-9983 extension 129 to schedule a pickup, and indicate the items that are to be picked up.
Brush pickup is a service the town provides for its residents, but anyone hired to cut brush is responsible for hauling it away. It is not the town’s responsibility.
The recycling program is on a volunteer basis. The town provides residential recycling bins, which are located at 136 Bottomless Pools, behind the Arcade Building for newspapers, plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and green, clear and brown glass.
The nearest landfill is located in Rutherfordton on Laurel Hill Drive. The following items are banned from North Carolina Landfills:
- aluminum cans
- used oil
- antifreeze
- tires
- lead acid (car batteries)
- white goods (appliances)
