Town of Lake Lure appoints Shannon Baldwin as Interim Town Manager

Lake Lure, NC – June 19, 2018. The Town of Lake Lure has announced the appointment of Shannon Baldwin as interim Town Manager, effective immediately.

The appointment of Baldwin follows Town Council's announcement on June 15th that Ron Nalley had resigned his position as Town Manager.

Town Council held a special Council meeting on Monday to discuss a transition plan. Since the issues dealt with matters of personnel, Council went into closed session. Following the meeting, Council resumed the meeting to announce Baldwin’s appointment.

In other business, Town Council appointed Michelle Jolley as full-time Town Clerk and Dustin Waycaster as Fire Chief. Both had been serving on an interim basis for the last few months.

“We on Town Council are united in doing what is best for the Town and its citizens," said Mayor Kevin Cooley. "With all of the complex issues we face as a community we are not in a position to go even one week without leadership over our staff and the projects in front of us."

Mayor Cooley expressed confidence in Baldwin to lead the staff of 34 and to manage the Town's many deadline oriented projects, including the comprehensive remediation of the Lake Lure Hydroelectric Dam and replacement of the Town’s Sewer Treatment System.

"We hope and we expect that Shannon will perform well," Mayor Cooley said.

Baldwin joined the Town of Lake Lure in 2004 as Community Development Director. Over the years he has served under the Town Manger and in cooperation with various boards, steering committees, and stakeholder groups.

He has facilitated the process and adoption of numerous major Town plans, including the recent Morse Park Site Plan, the 2007-2027 Comprehensive Plan and update, and the NC Hwy 9 General Development Plan. He also led the process for the Town’s Small Area Plans for the Rocky Broad Gateway, Morse Park and the Main Street Plan.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity for Mayor Cooley and Town Council in addition to working with a great staff. It’s time to get moving and I’m looking forward to it,” Baldwin Said.
