Chimney Rock State Park has advised that the Eagle Rock parking area at Chimney Rock State Park is closed until further notice.

You may still access Eagle Rock and the Weed Patch Mountain Trail by visiting  Buffalo Creek Park, located at 2191 State Road 1314 in Lake Lure.

We have included some general questions and answers below to provide further clarification.

Why is the parking area closing?

One of our neighbors in the area has made a claim of ownership over the easement that leads to the parking lot. A gate is set to be installed in a few weeks to block public access.

What is the state park doing about it?

Chimney Rock State Park is working with the NC Department of Administration’s State Property Office to review the options.

How long will the gate be closed?

We do not have an estimated date for when the Eagle Rock parking area can be restored.

May I park outside the gate and walk in?

No.  Parking outside the gate is not allowed as doing so may involve trespassing into private property.
