The Town of Lake Lure’s Hydroelectric Department is responsible for the Dam hydroelectric system, and the wastewater system. The primary responsibility in managing the hydroelectric system is to maximize electricity generation while controlling the level of Lake Lure.

The staff monitors the watersheds of the lake and determining when to open the floodgates of the dam and when to operate the second electricity-producing turbine. In addition, the utilities department is responsible for the maintenance of the hydroelectric plant including the scheduling of heavy maintenance of the plant and dam. The department is responsible for all bids and contracts concerning the hydroelectric plant and dam operations.
