Lake Lure Dam Reservoir Drain Project Update

March 2024 Concrete Pour at the Lake Lure Dam

One of the important projects that has been underway during the 2024 Winter Lake Drawdown is the construction of the Lake Lure Dam Reservoir Drain.  On Monday, March 25, 2024, Morgan Corporation coordinated a 116 cubic yard concrete pour at 5:00 AM.  This took 11 trucks worth of concrete. This was Mass Pour #3 of 14 total concrete pours that are planned. Large concrete pours are usually done in the early morning to avoid conflicts with other projects at the concrete plant.  It also minimizes traffic issues and helps guarantee the pour goes smoothly with minimal interference.

Morgan Corporation is on schedule with everything related to the reservoir drain project. Most of the excavation work is complete. These mass concrete pours will help brace the Dam and house the 72” drain pipe and valves once they are installed.

As soon as Lake Lure is back at full-pond, Morgan Corporation will float out barges to begin installing a concrete bulkhead and metal portal “door”. This will allow the workers to seal an area where the 72” hole will be drilled through the dam.  Stay tuned for updates on this important project!
