Medication Disposal

25 lds of drugs for disposal

The Lake Lure Police Department is proud to help the public safely dispose of unused and unwanted drugs.  It’s important and has been proven that drugs in our water system are dangerous.  Additionally tossing unused drugs into trash receptacles can be dangerous to children and pets in the household and once the trash is placed outdoors or taken to the dump site, those loose pills can kill wildlife that may be foraging around a trash yard.

L.L.P.D. offers a safe and convenient way to safely dispose of medicines by using the Medicine Drop Box, located inside the department lobby area.  You may leave them in the containers and either peel the label off with the patients name on it, or L.L.P.D. will permanently black out private information before disposing the containers.  Please keep in mind that pills should be in bottles or blister packs.  Bottles of liquid medications must be in sealed plastic food storage bags.  NO needles may be disposed of in the drop box. The drugs are then forwarded to a drug incendiary for disposal.

Lobby hours are Monday – Friday from 8am to 5pm, generally closed for lunch from 12pm – 1pm (times may vary depending on needs of the public).
