Active Woods/Brush Fire Alert 3/27/26 - Resolved 3/29/26

We want to make our community aware of an active woods fire in the Rumbling Bald area near the King property between Cattail Rd and Kings Dr. The map location is shown below. The estimated impact is approximately 8 acres at this time.

The Lake Lure Fire Department, along with the NC Forestry Service and several surrounding fire departments are currently on scene providing mutual aid and working diligently to contain and control the spread of the fire.

At this time we encourage residents to stay alert, follow any guidance from local officials, and avoid the area to allow emergency crews to work safely and effectively.

Our thoughts are with everyone impacted, and we will continue to share updates as more information becomes available.

Update on the Woods Fire 3/27/26 at 9:15 PM

 

The Town of Lake Lure, NC is pleased to report that containment lines are now in place. Crews will continue to monitor conditions throughout the night, and the NC Forest Service will resume work on the fire tomorrow with local firefighters. 

Please stay alert and follow any guidance from local officials. 

We pray for everyone’s safety and for rain. We are so thankful for all those who are working together to fight this fire and keep our community safe!

 

Brush Fire Update 3/28/26 at 9:00 AM

 

Fire crews worked throughout the night and were able to maintain the fire with no significant changes in conditions. The NC Forest Service and local fire departments remained on scene overnight, continuing suppression efforts.

A bridge crew is currently en route back to the fire area to continue mop-up operations. Lake Lure Firefighters will be monitoring conditions throughout the day. The estimated area impacted is between 15-20 acres.
 

Please note that the Town of Lake Lure is under a Red Flag Warning. Residents are urged to stay alert and avoid any outdoor burning.

We appreciate the continued hard work of all responding agencies and will provide updates as they become available.

 

Update 3/28/26 at 5:54 PM

 

Lake Lure Woods Fire (Rumbling Bald Area) Update: Lake Lure Fire and Rescue Firefighters remain on scene at the woods fire and are continuing to walk the fire lines to maintain the area.

At this time, the fire is contained and under control. Crews will stay on site to monitor conditions and ensure the fire remains fully contained.

We appreciate the continued efforts of all responders working to keep the community safe.

 

Update 3/29/26 at 12:15 PM

 

Lake Lure Fire and Rescue has confirmed that this fire is resolved. Firefighters continue to monitor the areas.

We are very thankful to the NC Forest Service, Lake Lure Fire and Rescue, Bills Creek Fire Department, Chimney Rock Fire Department,

Greenhill Volunteer Fire Department, Shingle Hollow Fire Department, Chimney Rock State Park Staff, and the Lake Lure Police Department.

We appreciate the support of our community and all those who prayed for the best outcome in this situation. We never take a positive outcome for granted and we are so thankful that no individuals, pets, or homes were harmed.

Note that the STATEWIDE BURN BAN remains in effect.
