There is so much to do here from zip lining, horseback riding, escape rooms, rock climbing, hiking, bird watching, and just taking it easy and enjoying the beauty of nature that surrounds us here. 

Here are some of the Town Parks that are currently open to the public.  

• Morse Park, new playground, and the Lake Lure Gazebo (East entrance)

• Dittmer-Watts Nature Trails

• Lake Lure Green Space

• Pool Creek Picnic Park

These amenities are in Lake Lure and are open to the public.

• Youngs Mountain

• Rumbling Bald Golf Courses

• Chimney Rock State Park  (But reservation only) 

• Chimney Rock State Park – Rumbling Bald Access

Ongoing work is also taking place at Buffalo Creek Park, Weed Patch Mountain and Upper Boulder Trails by the National Guard, Carolina Climbers Coalition, Rutherford Outdoor Coalition, EcoForesters and AmeriCorps. We cannot thank them enough for their time and support!

NOTE TO TRAVELERS: 

• Lake Lure is just a few miles from I-26: From South Carolina, take Exit #66 and then take the first exit for Highway 108 East. Turn left after exiting. Follow 108 East for approximately 6 miles to the intersection of Highway 108 and Highway 9 (a traffic stoplight). Turn left onto Highway 9 North. Go 8 miles to the stop sign (Lake Lure will be in front of you).

• Highway 64/74A from Rutherfordton and Highway 9 from Polk County are open.

• Highway 9 North from Black Mountain and Highway 64 from Hendersonville remain closed.

• Highway 64/74A Between Lake Lure and Chimney Rock Village: As of June 2025, Highway 64/74A between Lake Lure and Chimney Rock Village is closed as a result of the impacts of Hurricane Helene.  The road is only open to locals. For questions please contact Chimney Rock Village. 

• NC DOT updates on Highway 64:The road is closed from the Henderson / Rutherford County line to Chimney Rock Scenic Road. LOCAL TRAFFIC ONLY may use this road.   Please visit the following link for details from the NC Department of Transportation:  https://drivenc.gov/?type=incident&id=715074
