Cold Weather Advisory Remains in Effect from 6 Pm This Evening to 9 AM EST Monday

The National Weather Service has issued the following Urgent Weather Message on 2/1/26 at 1:26 PM.
COLD WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 9 AM EST MONDAY
* WHAT: Very cold wind chills as low as 5 to 12 below zero across the North Carolina mountains and as low as 5 degrees east of the mountains expected.
* WHERE: Portions of western North Carolina and portions of the South Carolina Upstate.
* WHEN: From 6 PM this evening to 9 AM EST Monday.
* IMPACTS: The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 5 below zero could result in hypothermia or frostbite if precautions are not taken. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
- Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside.
- To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them to drip slowly. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors.
- Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.
- Protect your pets.
- It is recommended that you not leave home but if you do, slow down and use caution while traveling.
- If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

If you are traveling, please be advised to continue to exercise caution as some of the side roads, parking lots, steps, and sidewalks may still be hazardous.
Town crews will be plowing town maintained roads on 2/2/26 - as soon as it is safe to do so.

Due to inclement weather, the Rutherford County Offices, Landfill, Convenience Centers, and North Carolina Rutherford County Courts will be closed Monday, February 2, 2026.

EMERGENCY PREPARATIONS
The Town of Lake Lure Emergency Preparedness Team has met and will continue to meet throughout the ongoing storm to prepare and address any issues as they arise.
- Town crews are continuing to prepare town roads and plow those roads with ice. Three plows are working to address these issues.
- The NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is responsible for state highways and roads.
