National Weather Service Hazardous Weather Outlook

The National Weather Service gas issued this surprising Hazardous Weather Outlook is for northeast Georgia, western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina.

DAY ONE: Today and tonight.

A brief period of strong wind gusts from the north is expected to
impact portions of the mountains and foothills this morning beginning
around sunrise and continuing through the morning. 

The main area of concern will be in areas from along the Blue Ridge escarpment into the foothills. Gusts of 40 to 50 mph will be possible for a couple of hours in these areas.

Additionally, snow levels will fall quickly across the mountains
this morning in the wake of a strong cold front. 

Rain is expected to briefly change to snow before the precipitation ends late this morning. Snowfall accumulation of up to an inch is possible across the North Carolina mountain counties bordering Tennessee, mainly above 3000 feet. Localized amounts of up to 3 inches are possible in the high elevations along the immediate state line. 

Significant travel difficulties are not expected due to warm roads resulting from the recent warm weather.
