Federal grant will boost local economies, restore jobs, and ensure access to goods and services.

The Renew NC Commercial District Revitalization (CDR) Program is now LIVE — bringing $40 million in federal funding to help restore and reinvigorate commercial districts in western North Carolina impacted by #HurricaneHelene. ⤵️

“The Commercial District Revitalization program is a critical investment in western North Carolina’s economic recovery,” said Governor Josh Stein. “By supporting business districts, we’re supporting local businesses, stabilizing jobs, and strengthening communities.”

Program highlights:

- Open to local governments and nonprofits in HUD- and State-designated Most Impacted and Distressed (MID) areas

- Competitive scoring based on capacity, community need, project approach, leveraged resources, and long-term impact

- Awards range from $500,000 to $10 million per project

- Projects must meet readiness and compliance thresholds

Applications are now open. Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to complete an online prescreening before application to strengthen their proposals.

This program is the third disaster recovery initiative from the North Carolina Department of Commerce Division of Community Revitalization and is funded through a Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
