Smoke Testing - Thursday, May 22, 2025 - Thursday. June 5, 2025

Smoke testing is a process used by the Town of Lake Lure Public Services Department to identify issues with the sewer system. Non-toxic smoke is blown into manholes and crews observe areas where smoke escapes, identifying broken manholes, cracked lines, and illegal connections.

Beginning Thursday, May 22, 2025, smoke testing will begin at manholes around Lake Lure.  The smoke testing will occur over a two-week period.  Residents may see smoke in the area during the smoke testing.   

Important Notes:

• The smoke is harmless.  
• Smoke should not enter homes or businesses unless the plumbing is not functioning properly or if it is rarely used.
• If smoke does enter the home or business, please open a window to allow for ventilation and exit the building.

• If you have any doubts about the origin of the smoke, please dial 911.
