Supporting Lake Lure’s Fish Habitat

Exciting work is underway to restore and enhance the fish habitat in Lake Lure! Lake Advisory Board Members and volunteers are actively placing recycled Christmas trees into the lake to rebuild essential underwater structures that the fishery. A dedicated team—including Gary Hasenfus, Robin Worcester, Dave Lusk (not pictured), and Donnie Martin from the Lake Lure Public Works Department—has begun installing new habitat to replace what was lost during debris removal following Hurricane Helene.

That cleanup effort, while necessary, significantly reduced the natural structures that fish and other aquatic species depend on for food, shelter, and protection. In response, the team have already established more than 100 tree clusters throughout the lake. Over the next few weeks, that number will grow to more than 120 two- and three-tree habitats strategically placed to support a thriving ecosystem.
The Town of Lake Lure, NC is incredibly grateful to this hardworking team for their dedication to restoring Lake Lure’s natural balance. Their efforts are making a real difference!
