Together We Rise - We are in the Final Stretch!
The Town of Lake Lure, NC continues to move forward with preparations for a smooth and safe reopening of the lake. The current lake level as of 4/13/26 is 989.9 Mean Sea Level (MSL), just .6 feet below full pond which is 990.5 MSL. Let’s hope for rain!
SMART Program contractors are continuing to work to remove shoreline debris. They have brought in a boom barge which allows them to remove large trees and stumps. To date, contractors working with the SMART Program have successfully removed more than 3,200 cubic yards of debris and they are continuing their efforts.
Lake access remains restricted to approved contractors only until further notice from the Town. We are preparing for what is anticipated to be a busy and successful season and we are working carefully to ensure the lake is fully safe and operational before public recreational use resumes.
The Town is planning a soft opening to allow the community to begin enjoying the lake before a grand opening for the general public is confirmed in later in May. Please stay tuned for specific details once the guidelines are finalized.

During the remaining lake closure period, Town staff and authorized contractors are finalizing critical projects including:
• Construction of the Washburn Marina docks and fueling area;
• Debris removal from previously inaccessible areas of the lakebed and shoreline;
• Structural stability checks on storm-damaged boathouses and potential removal or repair where needed;
• Backshore erosion stabilization and seawall repair;
• Boat ramp restoration to allow safe public access;
• West-end dredging and riverbank stabilization from Memorial Bridge to the tip of Morse Park;
• Fish habitat restoration and navigation buoy placement;
• Wastewater collection system inspections and repairs as necessary.
These efforts are part of a structured reopening framework designed to ensure the lake is safe, navigable, and fully prepared for public use.
Please stay tuned for updates .
