EMERGENCY PREPARATIONS:

  • The Town of Lake Lure Emergency Preparedness Team will address any issues as they arise.
  • All Town maintained roads were plowed twice on Monday, 1/26/26.
  • Town Public Works crews are scraping the most heavily traveled Town roads once it is safe to do so this morning. 
  • They will move on to plow all Town maintained road from there.
  • The Lake Lure Fire Department is working to assist with road safety and addressing tress that have fallen across any Town Roads.
  • NC DOT is working to maintain State roads. 
  • Unfortunately, some in our area have lost power. Please see the contact information below to review or report a power outage.

Delayed Start

 

Trash Pick-up: As advised on 1/25/26, Nelon & Sons began picking up trash as soon as they were able to safely do so today, 1/26/26.  They began on the West end of town and will continue tomorrow on 1/27/26 as soon as they are able to safely travel and make their rounds throughout the remaining areas in Town. 

Town Offices: Out of an abundance of caution and due to the hazardous weather conditions, Town of Lake Lure offices will operate on a delayed schedule. Offices will open at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

Rutherford County: Offices Rutherford County Offices, Convenience Centers, and Landfill will operate on a delayed schedule, Tuesday, January 27, 2026, opening at 12:00 pm.

  • Rutherford County Transit will be closed Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
  • Rutherford County Senior Center will be closed Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Lunch and home-delivered meals will not be provided.
  • The Rutherford County Courthouse will be closed Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

The National Weather Service has issued the following Urgent Winter Weather Message on 1/27/26 at 1:04 AM:

 

COLD WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON EST TODAY

* WHAT: Very cold wind chills as low as 10 below.

* WHERE: In Georgia, Rabun County. In North Carolina, Buncombe, Graham, Henderson, Macon, Transylvania, and southern Jackson Counties.

* WHEN: Until noon EST today.

* IMPACTS: The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 10 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. An extended period of freezing temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:

  • Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside.

  • To prevent water pipes from freezing, wrap or drain or allow them to drip slowly.

  • Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors.

  • Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.

  • If you are going outside, watch your first few steps taken on stairs, sidewalks, and driveways.

  • These surfaces could be icy and slippery, increasing your risk of a fall and injury.

STATE OF EMERGENCY: 

 

  • Governor Stein declared a State of Emergency as North Carolina prepares for the impacts of a major winter storm.
  • Rutherford County also declared a State of Emergency.
  • The Town of Lake Lure Emergency Preparedness Team continues to meet and Mayor Pritchett has also signed a State of Emergency for the Town of Lake Lure.
