Lake Lure Flowering Bridge Background Research Questionnaire

1920's View from the original Lake Lure Bridge - Now the Flowering Bridge

The Town of Lake Lure (Town) has been working to build a new cell tower on the campground site off of Boys Camp Road to enhance cell and internet access in the area.  The Town is working with AT&T and a lease has been signed between the Town and AT&T for the new cell tower but the project has been delayed due to requirements by the State Historic Preservation Office.  One of the requirements is that the Town build a webpage with historical information drafted by Trileaf, an organization specializing in Architectural History. The State Historic Preservation Office believes this is important because the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge is within the view scape of the proposed Cell Tower.

As a part of this process, Trileaf has developed a questionnaire to help us compile information from those who are knowledgeable about the history of the working bridge before it became known as the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge.  If you have any information that might be helpful to the project, please answer these questions.

If you have any photos or other imagery, like postcards, of the bridge, would you allow us to scan these?  Please contact our Communications Director Laura Krejci at 828-625-9983 x 103 or Communications@townoflakelure.com with any questions or to share photos or other imagery.

Cell Tower Update

The State has expressed satisfaction with the Town's current proposed plan for the Cell Tower.  The State advised that upon receipt of AT&T’s written draft of the plan, they are willing to approve a release for construction to begin.

The bottom line is that the cell tower project will now be able to move forward as planned.  The tower will enhance cell and wireless service from the dam, into Lake Lure, and just beyond Chimney Rock.  AT&T reports that users will have 4-5 bars of service indoors so we are all looking forward to this increased access.

Note that there will be multiple carriers available.  AT&T is having the tower built and will have the highest antenna space, then Verizon is planning to lease the space right below AT&T, leaving one or probably two additional levels below for other carriers.

It is estimated that the new tower could be in place by mid-2024.
