The Town of Lake Lure Comprehensive Planning Process
The Town of Lake Lure is excited to announce the initiation of our new Comprehensive Plan. In collaboration with the Foothills Regional Commission, the Town will begin a year-long process to develop a visionary, actionable roadmap for Lake Lure’s physical, economic, environmental, and social development.
A comprehensive plan is a vital tool which enables communities to shape their future thoughtfully and intentionally. It serves as a foundation for local policies, guides land use and growth, supports the enforcement of zoning regulations, and strengthens our ability to secure critical grant funding. This plan will be data-driven, rooted in community input, informed by current trends and best practices, and focused on realistic, implementable goals.
As the Lake Lure community continues to recover from the impacts of Tropical Storm Helene, the Comprehensive Plan will also play a critical role in guiding our long-term resilience and recovery. It will help us identify infrastructure vulnerabilities, prioritize investments, and ensure that we are better prepared for future challenges. Building a stronger, more resilient town starts with strategic planning—and the comprehensive planning process provides an essential opportunity to do just that.
To help guide the process, an 11-member steering committee has been assembled. Due to the limited number of seats available, careful consideration was given to assembling a team that is balanced, efficient, and well-equipped to advise on the direction, priorities, and content of the plan. Committee members will also help promote community engagement, review draft materials, and serve as a key link between the public, planning staff, and Town leadership.
As outlined in the project timeline, the steering committee will convene prior to the public input phase. These initial meetings will establish the framework and key themes to help structure public engagement efforts in a way that is inclusive, focused, and productive. The public will have multiple opportunities to participate in shaping the plan through surveys, input sessions, and town hall meetings.
Once the input has been collected, the Town will work collaboratively with the Foothills Regional Commission and the steering committee to draft the Comprehensive Plan. After further review, the final plan will be submitted to the Zoning and Planning Board and the Town Council for formal adoption.
This Comprehensive Plan represents a collective, community-driven effort to shape a stronger, more resilient, and vibrant future for the Town of Lake Lure. It will also provide a realistic and data-driven framework for achieving the goals outlined in the plan. We strongly encourage all residents and stakeholders to stay engaged, informed, and involved throughout this important planning process. Your voice matters in building the Lake Lure of tomorrow.
