Updates on Refilling Lake Lure - Getting Very Close!

Work on the Lake Lure Dam Tainter Gates

Lake Lure is approximately 15-16 feet below full pond at the current time. Crews are maintaining this level in anticipation of the forecasted precipitation this weekend.

Town officials are pleased to report that the project to replace the seals on the Tainter gates at the Lake Lure Dam remains on schedule, despite challenging winter weather conditions.

The lake will be maintained at the current level throughout the duration of this project which is expected to be completed in February 2026.  Stay tuned here for updates as new information becomes available.

Together, we will rise from the devastation of Hurricane Helene and Lake Lure will be better than ever!

SHORELINE DEBRIS REMOVAL

Town officials are working closely with representatives from the SMART Program and the State of North Carolina to finalize contract parameters for shoreline debris removal. In addition, Town crews will conduct debris removal efforts once the lake reaches levels closer to full pond.

WATER QUALITY

We are happy to share that Lake Lure is in better shape than it has ever been following all of the work by the US Army Corps of Engineers and local contractors.  Water quality testing confirms that conditions are within normal limits.

NEXT STEPS FOR REOPENING LAKE LURE

Once the project is finalized, Town officials will begin the process of refilling the lake. While the Town is hopeful to reopen for the season in May 2026, an exact date cannot be confirmed at this time. The refill timeline will depend on weather conditions and the amount of rainfall received.
