Together We Rise - One Step Closer!
The Town of Lake Lure continues to move forward with preparations for a smooth and safe reopening of the lake as water levels steadily rise this spring. The current lake level as of 4/6/26 is 988.6 Mean Sea Level (MSL), just 1.9 feet below full pond which is 990.5 MSL. Town leaders are pleased to announce that approved service contractors operating within the Town’s commercial model are now authorized to transport boats. Approved contractors are authorized to place boats at designated locations such as docks or residences on behalf of property owners prior to the public reopening of the lake.
This measure is intended to help manage and reduce traffic congestion once the lake officially reopens. Town staff have communicated directly with contractors to provide the necessary guidance and operational details.
Please note that while contractors may place boats in the water, property owners are not permitted to use them at this time while shoreline debris removal and other critical projects are completed. To date contractors working with the SMART Program have removed over 1,800 cubic yards of debris. Lake access will remain restricted to approved contractors only until further notice from the Town. The Town of Lake Lure is excited for what is anticipated to be a busy and successful season and we are working carefully to ensure the lake is fully safe and operational before public recreational use resumes.

During the remaining lake closure period, Town staff and authorized contractors are finalizing critical projects including:
- Wastewater collection system inspections and repairs as necessary;
- Structural stability checks on storm-damaged boathouses and potential removal or repair where needed;
- Debris removal from previously inaccessible areas of the lakebed and shoreline;
- Backshore erosion stabilization and seawall repair;
- Boat ramp restoration to allow safe public access;
- West-end dredging and riverbank stabilization from Memorial Bridge to the tip of Morse Park;
- Construction of the Washburn Marina docks and fueling area;
- Fish habitat restoration and navigation buoy placement
These efforts are part of a structured reopening framework designed to ensure the lake is safe, navigable, and fully prepared for public use.
