Together We Rise - Another Step Closer!

Buoy Placement

The Town of Lake Lure, NC continues to move forward with preparations for a smooth and safe reopening of the lake as water levels steadily rise. The current lake level as of 4/9/26 is 990 Mean Sea Level (MSL), just .5 feet below full pond which is 990.5 MSL.

As you can see from these photos, crews have been working to put buoys in place around the lake. See if you can spot the Bald Eagle leading their way! Special thanks to volunteer Dave Lusk and the Public Works team for their efforts in making the lake safe. (For buoy locations, please see the link to the Marine Commission Meeting in the latest Town News linked below.)

SMART Program contractors are continuing to work to remove shoreline debris. Lake access remains restricted to approved contractors only until further notice from the Town. We are preparing for what is anticipated to be a busy and successful season and we are working carefully to ensure the lake is fully safe and operational before public recreational use resumes.

During the remaining lake closure period, Town staff and authorized contractors are finalizing critical projects including:

• Structural stability checks on storm-damaged boathouses and potential removal or repair where needed;

• Debris removal from previously inaccessible areas of the lakebed and shoreline;

• Backshore erosion stabilization and seawall repair;

• Boat ramp restoration to allow safe public access;

• West-end dredging and riverbank stabilization from Memorial Bridge to the tip of Morse Park;

• Construction of the Washburn Marina docks and fueling area;

• Fish habitat restoration and navigation buoy placement;

• Wastewater collection system inspections and repairs as necessary;

These efforts are part of a structured reopening framework designed to ensure the lake is safe, navigable, and fully prepared for public use.
