Keeping Lake Lure Clean - Lake Debris Pick Up
The Town of Lake Lure has resumed responsibility for lake debris cleanup operations. Town-led debris removal will begin under this program immediately.
Under this program, Town staff will collect floating lake debris from coves and around boat docks. For the first six months, pickups will occur on Wednesdays during the 1st and 3rd weeks of each month. After this period, service will transition to the 3rd Wednesday of each month. Lake conditions, debris volumes, staffing, and program effectiveness will be monitored throughout this initial phase, and the schedule may be adjusted as necessary to respond to changing conditions.
WHAT DOES THE PROGRAM INCLUDE?
- This program is limited to floating lake debris.
- It does not include household trash, construction debris, yard waste, freshly cut vegetation, or other non-lake-related materials.
- Subsurface debris will not be collected through the routine program.
- Items located under docks or inside boathouses will not be removed by Town staff.
- Property owners are responsible for removing debris from these areas and securing it to an accessible location for pickup.
- Non-lake debris, including trees or vegetation not originating as floating lake material, should be addressed by property owners or by private contractors at the property owner’s expense.
- All pickup requests are subject to Town staff review.
- Collection will depend on accessibility, safety, equipment limitations, environmental conditions, and operational capacity.
- Some items may not be eligible for pickup if they present safety or liability concerns or require specialized removal.
HOW DO YOU SUBMIT A REQUEST FOR PICKUP?
- Requests should be submitted through the Town’s Service Request system, the same process used for hard trash pickup: https://townoflakelure.novokiosk.com/
- This link is available on the homepage of the Town website (www.townoflakelure.com) under the "Fix It" icon in the center of the page.
- or via www.townoflakelure.com → Services → Residential Services → Work Order Request
- Select “Lake Debris Pickup” under Issue Type and include the property address, description, and location of debris.
- Requests must be submitted by 7:00 AM on the scheduled pickup day.
Please be aware that because debris naturally shifts due to wind, currents, and weather, previously cleared areas may experience reaccumulation. This is expected, particularly during the initial phase of the program.
Conditions will be continuously monitored during the initial six-month period, and the Town reserves the right to adjust the schedule or program procedures as needed.
The Town appreciates the community’s cooperation in maintaining a clean, safe, and beautiful lake.
