Wednesday, May 6, 2026 - 8:30am
The Lake Lure Marine Commission held a special meeting on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. at The Landings at 920 Buffalo Creek Road, Lake Lure, NC 28746.
The purpose of this meeting was to address the following items:
- Consider Rumbling Bald's Request for Water Ski Show on May 23rd
Representatives from Rumbling Bald presented an overview of plans for4 the 5/23/26 Water Ski Show.
- Jessica Burchfield with Rumbling Bald on Lake Lure presented an overview of the proposed Water Ski Show.
- The show would involve about 15 performers from the North and South Carolina show ski team, performing between 12:00 and 1:00 PM with 30 minutes setup and 5 minutes teardown in the water.
- The performance will include classic routines like water ballet and stacking performers.
- The performance area stretches about 500 feet from the beach inward, with an additional 200 feet buffer zone blocked off for safety.
- Beach landing procedures were clarified, allowing skiers to step out directly on the beach for smooth transitions.
- Safety and Area Closures required closing the arena and restricting kayak rentals during the show, with non-motorized rentals starting only after the event concludes.
- The closure zone is near the marina area where the fire boat is stationed, ensuring no water traffic interferes.
- This restriction was agreed upon by the lake advisory board and the command manager to avoid safety risks.
- Boat Access and Travel Team Logistics confirmed no extended water access beyond scheduled times, as the team is used to quick drop-in and drop-out operations.
- Official boat names and links were collected for coordination and tracking purposes.
- The team’s travel schedule was considered to avoid prolonged water presence and conflicts with other events.
The Marine Commission approved the request.
