Smoke Testing - July 28, 2026

Smoke Testing Graphic

Smoke testing is a process used by the Town of Lake Lure Public Services Department to identify issues with the sewer system. Non-toxic smoke is blown into manholes and crews observe areas where smoke escapes, identifying broken manholes, cracked lines, and illegal connections.

  • The Town of Lake Lure will begin smoke testing on July 28, 2026.
  • Crews will be smoke testing a sanitary sewer manhole.
  • Residents on or around the area of Ridge Road and Edwards Point might see smoke in the area.
  • The test will only last two to three hours.

Important Notes:

  • The smoke is harmless.
  • Smoke should not enter homes or businesses unless the plumbing is not functioning properly or if it is rarely used.
  • If smoke does enter the home or business, please open a window to allow for ventilation and exit the building.
  • If you have questions, please contact Town personnel at the Lake Lure Public Services Department at 828-625-9983 x 508.
  • If you have any doubts about the origin of the smoke, please dial 911.

The Town of Lake Lure will be posting any necessary updates here on our website at www.townoflakelure.com. Any questions may be directed to Public Services Department at 828-625-9983 x 508.

Thank you for your patience as this smoke testing is performed.
