9/23/26 Lake & Roadway Conditions Update
"Town staff have been monitoring and responding to this critical situation throughout the night. Crews have been working to control the effect of the 4-6” of rain with adjustments at the dam, and we’re pleased to report that our dam, and our staff are functioning efficiently and effectively, in accordance with our Emergency Action Plan to protect our community." Mayor Carol Pritchett.
Crews were on site overnight assessing lake levels and managing the Tainter gates to help control lake levels.
The current lake level is 991.7 and has been holding and is starting to drop. One gate is open at 3 feet for maintenance. (Full pond is 990.5.)
There is also a tree down on Boys Camp Road, and the roadway may be temporarily blocked while crews work to stabilize a utility pole that was impacted.
Roadways throughout the area are also being assessed for any additional damage.
Some areas in town are currently without power. Duke Energy is aware of the outage and is working to address the issues as soon as possible.
We appreciate everyone’s patience as crews continue to assess conditions and work to address these issues.
Please use caution when traveling and avoid areas where crews are actively working.

9/23/26 9:00 AM UPDATE
Crews continue to monitor Lake Levels.
- Due to heavy rain Tuesday and more rain expected today, Lake Lure is releasing additional water from the dam.
- The lake is at full pond level, and the dam gates are currently above 3 feet.
- Sirens have been activated downstream from the dam to Rock Springs Church Road.
- Lake Lure has notified all campgrounds of the potential flood risk. No evacuations are needed at this time.
- Stay alert and watch for further updates.
