Lake Lure Hires New Town Manager William “Hank” Perkins

On Tuesday, April 12, 2022, Mayor Carol Pritchett announced that Town Council has hired a new Town Manager, William “Hank” Perkins.  He will begin on June 1, 2022.   Mayor Pritchett stated, "we are very pleased to be hiring a true professional with years of experience serving as a Town Manager.  He will be moving from Lewisville, NC where he has served as the Town Manager since 2012.  We look forward to everyone meeting him at the June Town Council meeting".   

When interviewed about his new position, Mr. Perkins shared, "I am extremely happy for the opportunity to serve Lake Lure as its next Town Manager and I'm excited to be starting soon".

The following is a summary of Hank Perkin's experience. 

TOWN MANAGER - TOWN OF LEWISVILLE, NC: JULY 2012- PRESENT

Town of approximately 13,400. Responsible for the duties of the Town Manager, carrying out the policies that are made by the Town Council and directing and coordinating the work of all town departments including the utilization of extensive contract management. Responsible for keeping the Town Council informed of the condition and needs of the town, making necessary recommendations to the board on policy matters, and preparing the budget.

TOWN MANAGER - TOWN OF NORTH WILKESBORO, NC: MAY 2002 -JUNE 2012

Responsible for the duties of the Town Manager, and directing and coordinating the work of all town departments. Responsible for keeping the Town Council informed of the condition and needs of the town, making necessary recommendations to the board on policy matters.

TOWN ADMINISTRATOR: TOWN OF LUCAMA, NC: NOVEMBER 1999- APRIL 2002

Responsible for the administrative and executive tasks of directing the day-to-day and long range activities of the town government under the policy direction of the Governing Board of the Town of Lucama. Provided and recommended policy alternatives to the Governing Board and acted as the Town's representative in dealing with other agencies of various governmental levels, organizations, and the general public.

HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICER - TOWN OF SMITHFIELD, NC: MARCH 1996- NOVEMBER 1999

Administered personnel activities of the Town. The town had approximately 150 full-time employees. Duties included all personnel functions including salary and compensation, recruitment, safety administration, liability, medical and other insurance, personnel ordinance authorship and risk management. Was responsible for formulating and annual personnel budget. Administering OSHA, DOT driver and drug testing policies.

 PUBLIC WORKS/SANITATION SUPERVISOR - TOWN OF SMITHFIELD, NC:  OCTOBER 1992 - MARCH 1996 

Supervised in a department of 25 employees engaged in street, sidewalk and storm drainage infrastructure maintenance and improvements and administered the collection and disposal of municipal solid waste, yardwaste and recycling activities. Designed refuse collection routes and organized maintenance schedules for town infrastructure.

 RECYCLING COORDINATOR - TOWN OF SMITHFIELD, NC - JANUARY 1992- OCTOBER 1992 

Planned, designed and implemented a town-wide curbside and drop-off recycling program. Evaluated and made recommendations for the purchase of equipment.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT/INTERN - TOWN OF CLAYTON, NC: JANUARY 1991- DECEMBER 1991

Worked under the direction of the Town Manager in various areas of government administration. Assisted the departments of Public Works, Electrical, and Planning in various studies.
